Basillisk has been ported to OS X too, but I havent played with it. vMac is good, but Ive only used it to emulate 128k Macs w/OS 6. I guess it was OS 7.5 that did it for me Its the best emulator Ive used in a long time, and the best Mac emulator out there. System 7 also included AppleTalk networking and file sharing software in the form of system extensions and control panels. It was BasiliskII that got me eventually to switch over to the Mac. PowerPC Macintoshes included Graphing Calculator. Engst's Internet Starter Kit for Macintosh. Since System 7 was introduced before the Internet came to popular attention, software such as MacTCP, FreePPP and Netscape were not included at first, but was later available on disk from Internet service providers and bundled with books such as Adam C. Later, the Macintosh Performa series added various software bundles including third-party software such as ClarisWorks, The New Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, Microsoft Bookshelf, Spectre VR and Power Pete. (If you do own a modern Mac, look for 'Chubby Bunny', a pirate release of the OS X version that comes preconfigured with Mac OS 9. This is probably the best replacement for Classic mode. Newly purchased Macintosh computers had System 7 installed and were often bundled with software such as HyperCard, At Ease and Mouse Practice. SheepShaver is a Windows/Linux/OSX emulator that works as a virtual PowerPC, and it runs Mac OS from 7.5.2 to 9.0.4. Unlike earlier systems, System 7 itself did not come bundled with major software packages. ![]() ![]() System 7 was the first Apple operating system to be available on CD, although it shipped on a set of 15 floppy disks initially.
